Have you any additional skills that will give you an advantage over your competitors. If not, you should consider taking courses in some of these areas, if appropriate:

  • Computer Skills

  • Report Writing

The above are just a few ideas to get you started on developing your skill levels.

Why Do People Change Careers?

There are many valid reasons why you may be considering a change in career. Some of the more common career change reasons are:

1) You may feel that you are in a dead end job with no career prospects or you are constantly overlooked for promotion.

2) Perhaps you don’t get on with your boss or with your work colleagues.

3) The working environment is poor in terms of office facilities or even staff relationships.

4) You feel your are underpaid or need to earn more money.

5) The nature of your work does not give you any job satisfaction or you may be interested in a field that you have tried before.

6) You may feel insecure about your job due to the company’s performance or rumors about a possible takeover.

7) No jobs are safe for life and with changes in technology many jobs become redundant.

You may already be out of work ( fired or resigned, it doesn’t matter ) and looking for a new job. This is always a good time to take stock and re-evaluate your career options.

I could go on and list many more reasons, but the point I am trying to make is that there are a multitude of reasons ( both positive and negative ) that get you thinking about a change in career.

Although you need to do a lot more career planning before you can start firing off job resumes, it is a good idea to start thinking about your resume at an early stage. This helps your planning because it forces you to document all your skills, experience, training etc.

Good luck and make use of all the information provided on this site.
